In 1910, “Chemical Engineering” first appeared in the Washington University catalog as a Bachelor of Science degree program in the School of Engineering. The Department of Chemical Engineering was founded in 1940, which later merged with the Environmental Engineering Science program to become the world’s first Department of Energy, Environmental, and Chemical Engineering (EECE) in 2006. Our Chemical Engineering, BS program has been continuously accredited (ABET) since 1948.
The American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) is the global professional community for over 40,000 chemical engineers in the United States and over 90 countries. Our student chapter was founded on April 8th, 1932.
